You can almost forget you're in the desert on one of the many golf courses in Palm Springs

Palm Springs California

Palm Springs is the desert playground of California. Once a tiny outpost in the desert, movie stars started arriving in the 1930’s – first for partying, later as residents. The main roads are named after Bob Hope, Frank Sinatra, Dinah Shore, Gene Autry and Gerald Ford, offer clear clues about how this resort community was popularized.
There really are thousands of palm trees lining the boulevards. Known for golfing, there are 90+ courses here, transforming the desert into manicured greens with many retirement communities nearby.

The absence of high-rise buildings in Palm Springs keeps views open – a rarity in California resort communities. The town also has plenty of shopping, unique vintage motels, high-end spas, a casino and an excellent Living Desert Museum, so there is plenty to recommend Palm Springs to non-golfers. Take the Aerial Tram to see the view from the San Jacinto Mountain ridge. If desert camping does not appeal, Palm Springs is a great place to stay while exploring Joshua Tree National Park.
