Hearst Castle – Perched atop one of the most beautiful ridges overlooking the California coast, the "more money than sense" Mediterranean Revival-style castle of William Randolph Hearst is a fabulous destination. Take one or more of the themed tours to see the famous pools, art collections, gardens and Hollywood memorabilia (his mistress was a starlet and the castle was the scene of many parties). It is impossible to see it all in a single tour – the main house has 115 rooms! Located in tiny San Simeon, overnight visitors generally stay in nearby Cambria. Watch for grazing zebras as you approach the entrance from Highway 1.  Hearst Castle is managed by California State Parks and reservations are highly recommended.
